Gold price today (XAUUSD), explained
This page shows the live gold price in US dollars per troy ounce, refreshed automatically throughout the trading day. Gold — ticker XAUUSD — is one of the world's most heavily traded assets, and its price never stops moving during market hours (roughly 24 hours a day, five days a week). The number at the top of this page is the current spot price; the coloured figure beneath it shows how far price has moved across the recent session, and the stat cards summarise the intraday high, low, trend, and momentum.
What moves the gold price?
Gold does not move at random. A handful of powerful forces push it up and down, and understanding them helps you make sense of the number you see above:
- The US dollar (DXY). Gold is priced in dollars, so a stronger dollar usually makes gold cheaper and a weaker dollar lifts it. This inverse relationship is one of the most reliable in all of trading.
- Interest rates & the Fed. Gold pays no interest, so when rates rise, holding gold becomes relatively less attractive and prices often fall. Dovish central-bank signals tend to lift gold.
- Inflation. Gold is a classic inflation hedge. Rising inflation expectations often support higher gold prices — though the reaction depends on how markets expect the Fed to respond.
- Geopolitical risk. In times of war, crisis, or uncertainty, investors buy gold as a safe haven, pushing prices up.
- Supply & demand. Central-bank buying, jewellery demand, and mining supply all shape the longer-term trend.

From price to a trade decision
Knowing the price is only the first step. To act on it, traders combine the current price with technical analysis — trend, momentum, and volatility — to decide whether conditions favour buying, selling, or standing aside. That is exactly what our free Gold Signal Bot does: it scores eight independent factors on the 15-minute chart and produces a clear BUY, SELL, or HOLD signal, complete with suggested entry, stop-loss, and take-profit levels. The live signal card above is a snapshot; the full dashboard shows the complete picture.
